Peace of mind

How have you been? I have been doing pretty good, I said

Why "pretty"? Well, there were days when I wanted to cry, days when I wanted to laugh out loud and also days when I felt like I wasn't part of the world

Today I felt like I was nonexistent. Chaos in my mind that I had to pretend that I was fine and I'm sure you have also had plenty of days as such. During monents like these I practice some activities to regain my peace of mind

Activities that help me cope up

- slow and conscious breathing
My most favourite activity to help relieve myself of anything and everything is slow conscious breathing. I believe in living a life in the middle path (I'm not deeply into any religion). When feeling sad, I breathe slow and even when I'm overly happy still I breathe slow to make sure that I'm in the middle path and that I'm grounded. To those who wonder what the middle path is, it is to live a life where you're not extremely sad nor extremely happy. This helps one to take everything as what they are and to let go of anything that consumes one unnecessarily

- pet my dog
This is my form of meditation. I have tried to sit down, close my eyes and to meditate but to pet my dog has made me feel. Playing with my dog also makes me laugh which help me gain peace of mind. As an individual who works with pets on a daily basis and having different clients sharing their pets' stories with me, I believe that any pet can bring peace of mind to a human. It's a matter of how the pet is being raised, how much psychologically close one's pet is to their pet owner. Your pet could be a fish, a cat, a guniea pig, a cow or a pig. They too have souls and could share a higher level of mental bonding with a human being if treated with affection

- I write
When I'm confused I write. If I have unexpressed sadness, I will put my thoughts into pen. This is how I let go of all my negative thoughts

Little things like these help me gain peace of mind...Hey, I'm still not perfect but my only goal in life right now is to grow in peace each day

Try out all or atleast one of the above tips to improve peace within yourself

How peace of mind helps a person:
- improves focus on one's goals
- improves one's character
- lessens the urge to gossip
- improves the ability to cope up with whatever that comes up
- can easily or with less difficulty can let go of anything that one has no control of
- improves balance in life as a whole

To all those who are already practicing peace of mind, I'm curious, can you share your tips with me in the comments below?

Have a peaceful day folks!

What took me to the UN

I was invited to the United Nations' International Labour Organization for a consultative meeting with the stakeholders of the entrepreneurial system to conduct a start-up ecosystem mapping for the first time in Sri Lanka on the 17th of January 2025 This is my first time to even go to the United Nations and I'm grateful that I was invited. In my invitation it mentioned that I was invited for the potential that I showcased as a young entrepreneur  There were only four young entrepreneurs who were invited while the rest was about 50 other massive stakeholders and entrepreneurs themselves But, what exactly made me to the UN? I was pondering about the "potential" and yes, I think I figured out  1. social impact : aligns with 10 SDGs of UN From healing pets to creating industries, employment and promoting innovation, my work expands in the most sustainable ways 2. health impact : promotes longevity and sustainability of pets directly and human beings indirectl...

Leptospirosis as a zoonosis

Leptospirosis awareness A timely topic as there's a Leptospirosis outbreak in the Northern province of Sri Lanka. I see a gap in the level of awareness on prevention and transmission regarding this topic although there are plenty of sources to explain the symptoms of the disease. It's vital to raise awareness on prevention of spread of the disease among the non-infected at a same level as of the attempts to cure the already infected individuas! Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease - a disease that is transmitted to humans via animals Leptospirosis, also known as "මී උණ" in Sinhala is a highly contagious disease caused by the bacteria Leptospira The carrier of the disease is rodents such as rats, mice and even squirrels The carriers can transmit Leptospira bacteria to most of the mammals such as humans, dogs, cats, cattle, horses, wild animals and marine mammals How does the bacteria enter into an individual? There are several ways by which the bacter...
