Women's Day 2025

Happy Women's Day. Stay Strong 💜
Not gonna lie but to me I am my super hero and my super woman. I hope I handle everything ahead like how I have handled life already. Next in line is my mother

My upbringing was molded mainly by my mother. I'm a product of home schooling and self learning mostly - obviously I took tuition too but beyond that there was a lot of self learning. Until I was about 8 years of age I was 90% home schooled by my mother due to my asthmatic condition back then. She never failed to teach me the syllabus and gave me a lot of self work on the taught subjects. Later on, when I turned 10 years my mother stopped herself from home schooling me for two reasons:
1. I was getting better with my health. I could go to school more
2. I was dependent on her insisting me to study

I had to do everything on my own - all of my studies. Ammi was just monitoring my grades and helped me find tutors but she made me be independent with my studies

My father was the bread winner throughout but my mother was the one who molded us;my sister and I, laying the foundation to our studies and upgrading our lifestyle to a certain standard that we never had back in the day when I was small. She used to walk miles with us for tuition when she easily could have stayed at home with us. She could have easily been spending more money on her attire, outer appearance but she chose to save as much as possible and build a beautiful house which we proudly can call home. Ammi taught me how to enjoy a good cooked meal at home. She was employed until I was 8 years old. She could have remained working but she resigned to take better care of u

Ammi was concerned a lot about brain development and how she could help us with nutrition. She never failed to give us expensive but nutritious food and supplements to boost memory and immunity

She always wanted to build me a career that relies on nobody. She figured out that I was good at playing musical instruments by the age of 8.  Hence, she took me for western music classes, hoping I'd choose to teach music at home one day and make a living out of it. Every week for 8 years she took me for western music classes - it was a 2 km walk or a three wheel ride that slowly got upgraded to a car ride on some days. By the year 2005, she realized IT was something that would probably be need for us in future and dragged us for IT classes for years to learn offce packages, graphic designing animation, web development and even programming (MS DOS, Visual Basics back then) !

At a time when we see a lot of impulsive buying with just a click of a button, she teaches me about mindful consumption and to live frugally until I can afford a certain upgrade

I have now turned out to be a vet who loves music, enjoys home baking and is able to handle most of the basic IT, graphic designing work that is needed for my every day work but also tries her best to live below her means as much as possible.

I believe that the basis for me to be a multi passionate entrepreneur came from my mother, supported by my father. I'm nothing but grateful to them

To me, my mother is a visionary and is definitely another superwoman 💜

Leptospirosis as a zoonosis

Leptospirosis awareness A timely topic as there's a Leptospirosis outbreak in the Northern province of Sri Lanka. I see a gap in the level of awareness on prevention and transmission regarding this topic although there are plenty of sources to explain the symptoms of the disease. It's vital to raise awareness on prevention of spread of the disease among the non-infected at a same level as of the attempts to cure the already infected individuas! Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease - a disease that is transmitted to humans via animals Leptospirosis, also known as "මී උණ" in Sinhala is a highly contagious disease caused by the bacteria Leptospira The carrier of the disease is rodents such as rats, mice and even squirrels The carriers can transmit Leptospira bacteria to most of the mammals such as humans, dogs, cats, cattle, horses, wild animals and marine mammals How does the bacteria enter into an individual? There are several ways by which the bacter...

What took me to the UN

I was invited to the United Nations' International Labour Organization for a consultative meeting with the stakeholders of the entrepreneurial system to conduct a start-up ecosystem mapping for the first time in Sri Lanka on the 17th of January 2025 This is my first time to even go to the United Nations and I'm grateful that I was invited. In my invitation it mentioned that I was invited for the potential that I showcased as a young entrepreneur  There were only four young entrepreneurs who were invited while the rest was about 50 other massive stakeholders and entrepreneurs themselves But, what exactly made me to the UN? I was pondering about the "potential" and yes, I think I figured out  1. social impact : aligns with 10 SDGs of UN From healing pets to creating industries, employment and promoting innovation, my work expands in the most sustainable ways 2. health impact : promotes longevity and sustainability of pets directly and human beings indirectl...
